Frequently Asked Questions
What will happen on your first row?
Your first few outings will be tailored to your experience and comfort level. You'll meet your cox and fellow rowers at Northney Marina, where your cox will give a short briefing on safety, weather conditions and the plan for the session. Together, you'll walk to where the boat is moored and set off.
A beginner's session typically lasts around an hour with plenty of breaks along the way. As you progress, you'll be able to join a wider variety of rows - from social and development sessions to longer or faster outings.
What do I wear and bring?
Dress for the forecasted weather and remember that rowing is an outdoor sport - comfort, flexibility and layering are key.
Cool or wet weather:
Leggings or sports trousers, thermal base layer or T-shirt, sweatshirt and a lightweight waterproof jacket
Warm or dry weather:
Shorts or leggings, T-shirt, a hat, sunblock
You'll need to bring drinking water whenever you row.
Training shoes are fine for most outings. You may sometimes help launch or recover boats from the slipway or beach — this can mean stepping into shallow water, so wellington boots or water shoes are useful to bring along.
